Dutch Artist, Janelle Okwodu, has revealed the secret lives of popular cartoon, fairy tale and pop culture characters. In her series of illustrations called “The Trapped Portraits”, she portrays what is going on inside these famous characters.

Okwodu has been drawing for as long as she can remember and believes that art is a form of expression that translates into any language. She says: “I find the process of creating a work to be therapeutic.” The Dutch artist, Pieter Kerswiet, creates illustrations of popular cartoon, fairy tale and pop culture characters that are trapped inside a glass jar.

Kerswiet’s drawings show the character’s inner thoughts as they struggle to break free from the glass. The illustrations also show what each character would do if they were free. The artist believes that this project is a metaphor for how we all feel trapped by our environment and society.
