Daylight saving time ends this Sunday, and with it goes the last of our sunshine. Yes, we get one “extra” hour of sleep. No, nobody actually sleeps it. The kids are up at the old time, the dog wants breakfast at the old time, and by Tuesday it’s pitch dark at 5 p.m. and you’re wondering if it’s bedtime.
These daylight saving comics are for everyone falling back… and falling apart.
1. The extra hour plan

A person in bed on Saturday night, smiling at the clock, planning to sleep in. Thought bubble: a peaceful sunrise and a long lie-in.
“Tomorrow I sleep an extra hour.” – famous last words
2. The toddler did not get the memo

Sunday 5:00 a.m. A wide-awake toddler stands next to the bed holding a juice cup, staring at a sleeping parent. The clock on the wall shows 5:00.
Kids don’t do “fall back.” Kids only do “up.”
3. The pet is outraged

A cat sits next to an empty bowl at 6 a.m., glaring at the owner and pointing at the clock with one paw.
“I don’t care what the government says. Breakfast was an hour ago.”
4. The microwave clock

A person changes their phone, watch and laptop, then stares at an old microwave and an oven with confusing buttons. Microwave shows the wrong time.
The microwave will stay on summer time until next March. We have accepted this.
5. Leaving work at 5 p.m.

An office worker steps out of a building at 5 p.m. into total darkness, with stars and an owl in the sky. They look shocked.
“I came in when it was dark. I am leaving when it is dark. Did I see the sun at all?”
6. Dinner time confusion

A family at the table at 4:45 p.m. It is dark outside, so dad is already in pajamas and yawning over his plate.
It’s dark, so it’s bedtime. Science.
7. The car clock

A driver sees the car dashboard clock and does mental math with numbers floating over their head. A caption box reads: “Day 147.”
Some car clocks are wrong for half the year. The other half, they’re just wrong.
8. Monday morning body clock

Monday, alarm ringing. A person in bed looks like a zombie and the alarm clock looks tired too.
My phone says 7 a.m. My body says “absolutely not.”
9. The phone already did it

Two people side by side: one calm, holding a phone that changed itself; the other on a ladder changing a wall clock, confused.
Your phone: updated at 2 a.m. You: still updating by Wednesday.
10. Waiting for spring

A person wrapped in a blanket by the window, counting days on a calendar until March, with a tiny sun drawn on the date.
Only about 130 days until we get the hour back. Not that anyone’s counting.
Which one is you?
Are you the parent awake at 5 a.m., the person who never fixes the microwave, or the one asleep on the couch at 6 p.m.? Tell us in the comments, and share these daylight saving comics with a friend who is also falling back.

Daylight Saving Time FAQ
When does daylight saving time end in 2026?
In the US, daylight saving time ends on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at 2 a.m., when clocks go back one hour.
Do I get an extra hour of sleep?
Technically yes. Clocks “fall back,” so 2 a.m. becomes 1 a.m. In reality, kids and pets usually wake up at the old time.
Why does it get dark so early after the time change?
Clocks move back an hour, so sunset comes an hour earlier on the clock. Days are also getting shorter as winter gets closer.
Does my phone change time automatically?
Most smartphones, computers and smartwatches update by themselves. Microwaves, ovens, and many car clocks need to be changed by hand.
When does daylight saving time start again?
In the US, clocks “spring forward” again on the second Sunday of March.
