You buy your cat an expensive bed, and it curls up in the cardboard box the bed arrived in. Every cat owner has lived this exact moment. These comics celebrate one of the great mysteries of feline life: the undying love of the box.
The universal cat law
If there is a box, a cat will sit in it. This rule holds true across every breed, age and continent, and the comics never tire of it.
Security in small spaces
Boxes make cats feel safe and hidden, like a tiny fortress with walls on every side. That comfort is powerful.
If it fits, they sit
Size is no obstacle. A cat will squeeze into a box far too small, spilling over the edges with total confidence.
The smaller the better
Somehow the least comfortable box is the most appealing. A cat will ignore a cozy bed for a cramped shoebox every time.
Boxes over expensive beds
The pricier the bed, the more likely the cat is to reject it in favor of packaging. It is a running joke among owners.
A hunting instinct
Boxes give cats a hidden base to watch and pounce from, satisfying an ancient instinct. The comics love showing the ambush.
Stress relief on four walls
Studies suggest boxes genuinely reduce feline stress, which is why cats seek them out in a busy home.
The great box thief
Try to recycle a box and you will find a cat has already claimed it. Removal is not an option.
A cardboard kingdom
Give a cat a few boxes and you have built an entire palace it will rule for weeks.
Why the box always wins
Comfort, safety and instinct all point to the same place, which is why the box beats everything else.
