These parenting comics are about the longest part of the day: bedtime. In theory, it takes 15 minutes. In real life, it takes two hours, three stories, four glasses of water and one very deep question about where the sun goes at night.
If you’re reading this from the floor of a dark kids’ room, waiting for tiny eyes to close, this one’s for you.
1. One more story

A parent finishes a book. The child holds up a stack of ten more books and gives huge puppy eyes.
“One more” is never one.
2. Suddenly thirsty

The child is tucked in. Two minutes later they appear at the door looking like they crossed a desert: “Water… I need water.”
They drank nothing all day. Now they are a camel.
3. The big questions

Lights out. A tiny voice asks: “Where do dreams come from? Why is the sky? Do fish sleep?” The parent looks exhausted.
At 8:59 p.m., my child becomes a philosopher.
4. The 9 p.m. project

The child suddenly remembers: “I need a volcano for school. Tomorrow.” The parent stares at the clock showing 9 p.m.
Nothing builds teamwork like a midnight volcano.
5. The creaky floor escape

The child is asleep. The parent tiptoes out like a spy avoiding lasers. One floorboard creaks. The child’s eyes snap open.
Mission failed. We’ll get them next time.
6. Monster check

The parent checks under the bed, in the closet, and behind the curtains with a flashlight while the child supervises.
Room officially monster-free. Parent officially tired.
7. Not tired

A child yawning with half-closed eyes, barely standing, shouting “I’M NOT TIRED!”
Never been more awake. Asleep in 30 seconds.
8. Parent falls asleep first

The parent lies down “just for a minute” to help. The next panel: the parent snoring loudly, the child wide awake reading a book.
Who put who to sleep?
9. Finally free

The child is asleep. The parent drops onto the couch with snacks and the TV remote, glowing with joy.
My shift is over. My show is starting.
10. Five minutes later

The parent hears a door creak. A tiny figure stands in the hallway holding a teddy bear: “I had a bad dream.”
Bedtime: the sequel.
